Goucher College is a private, co-educational, liberal arts college located in Towson, which is a census-designated place and an unincorporated community in Baltimore County (serving as its county seat), in the US state of Maryland, with a population of nearly 51 800 inhabitants, estimated during the 2000 census, which makes it the 2nd most populated unincorporated county seat in USA.
Goucher College was established in 1885, being founded by Methodist ministers Dr. John Goucher and John B. Van Meter, with the assistance of Goucher's wife Mary Cecilia Fisher Goucher, as The Woman's College of Baltimore, being renamed in 1910, in honor of its founding members and benefactors.
The college currently offers its students graduate, certificates and continuing education programs, its most popular majors being psychology and communications.
Goucher's athletic teams are known as the Gophers and they compete in NCAA Division III, with 17 varsity teams. Their distinctive colors are blue and gold.
